The Truth About Walking, It's exciting, it's invigorating and most of all it's FUN and

FREE

When we are parents we get so excited about our children taking their first walking steps that we can't wait to tell everyone about it. What do we do then?

We cage them in a play-pen so that they can't escape.

Does it get any better from then on? I don't think so.

We either take them to pre-school in a buggy or in the car. When they are a little bit older we put them on a school bus. As soon as they are in their teens they learn to drive and as a consequence all of that excitement of the early years of taking those initial steps has been lost.

Then after having taken away from our children the desire to travel anywhere on foot the desire to enjoy this most pleasant of exercises has been lost.

We have taught them to be just like us and shown them the way to lead a sedentary life. One day suddenly and i hope that it is not too late, we get a wake up call that our health is not as good as it should be

I have created this site as a meeting point for Young or Old, Novices or hardened Explorers to understand the benefits it can bring and also to review clothing and equipment that will enhance the experience further.

It is a meeting place where we can all contribute with our experiences and tell others about our favourite walking expeditions or foods or articles of clothing.

Now I am not a medical practitioner of any sort so you have to treat my words with some caution but everything that I read tells me that regular exercise will:-

  • Lower Cholesterol and Blood Pressure
  • Reduced Stress
  • It will help in any Anti Aging program
  • It will Increase the libido
  • It is a terrific aid to Weight Loss and improving your waistline
  • Walking at a good pace for even a few minutes will improve the Lung capacity and you will Look, Feel and be Healthier

  • Another Benefit of Walking is that it is considered to be one of the most efficient weight bearing exercises we can do and that will bring about greater density of our bones. End result? Delayed Osteoporosis in old age
  • * You can do it alone or with company. (See walking Clubs)

  • You have the opportunity to meet new people
  • You don't need any special equipment to get started. (We discuss this on another page)
  • It should help in the reduction of cellulite of the thighs
  • You will strengthen your inner organs and pelvic floor and even improve bladder control
  • Your legs will become shapelier
  • You don't have to travel to a gym or any special place to do it
  • It will encourage the endorphins to flow more freely and help in pain control
  • AND IT IS FREE. It costs Nothing, Nada, Zero, Zilch
  • What is the one thing people who have had a heart replacement are encouraged to do? Gentle exercise.

    According to physical education experts at Toronto University in a report published in April 2008 they claimed that "Regular exercise 'Will Put Aging on Hold for 12 Years'

    You can do it Anywhere, Anytime, Day or Night whatever the weather.

    Me, I love walking. When I was a kid growing up we had a dog and even at the age of 7 my sister and I would in the summer go off and spend the whole day in the countryside.

    When I was a young man I bought a dog for company and naturally he had to be taken for a walk 2 or 3 times a day. I loved it. It got me away from the grind of work and into Gods wonderland.

    Yes it is a wonderful, purposeful way to spend some time out in the open air and escape from the pressures of life.
